Lifehacker.com
One of the most popular blogs on the web, Lifehacker.com, reviewed Biznik yesterday afternoon as “a really interesting alternative for business networking.” Lifehacker is ranked by Technorati as the 12th most popular blog on the web. Here’s a link to the full post. Since then we’ve had an average of one new member every half hour. Thanks Lifehacker.

To return the favor I’d like to post a brief review of Lifehacker for our members (although most of our newest members already know all about it).

Unlike a lot of blogs, Lifehacker isn’t merely interesting – it’s useful. I say that guardedly because to call something useful in Web 2.0 circles these days is tantamount to insulting it, but since Biznik also falls squarely into the “useful” category, I want to make it clear that I view this as a good thing. Lifehacker’s function is basically to separate the crap from the cream in the world of software and productivity. The software reviews are brief and to the point, often just a couple of paragraphs with an image. But my favorite thing about Lifehaker isn’t their software reviews – it’s their eponymous category, Life Hacks. A life hack is a brief explanation of how to do something productive – like how to banish telemarketers from your phone, for example. Other topics include hacks for reducing stress in your life, how to get to sleep faster, how to install a new habit, overcome writer’s block, or how to differentiate yourself in a job interview. PC magazine calls the site “relentlessly informative,” and it was awarded one of the 50 coolest websites of 2005 by Time Magazine. Biznik gives it five stars, too.

(Caveat: If you plan to follow Lifehacker’s barrage of daily tips, I recommend using an RSS reader – otherwise the sheer number of tips can be a bit overwhelming).
