Here’s something I’m thankful for heading into the holiday: Biznik just got its 20,000th member! Not only that, but Derek Fowler, who signed up yesterday morning, also chose to upgrade his account right away and become a supporting member. Thank you, Derek, for your support. It’s members like you that allow us to hire staff (like the software engineer we’re currently searching for) that in turn accelerates our mission to connect great minds with interesting work.

Here’s the scoop on Derek, from his profile:

I am an Qigong Instructor teaching in Seattle. Through weekly classes, I offer the public a skill that they can use to improve their health and their quality of life. By teacing classes in Wild Goose Qigong(pronounced chee gung), I am able to honor the Chinese health tradition as well as give back to my community.

Classes are available at the University Heights Community Center 5031 University Way NE Seattle 98105

Wednesday nights 7:00- 8:00 pm Room 108 1st floor

What you do best
I strive to connect with people on an individual level so that I am able to provide instruction and guidance that is specifically tailored for them. Though a curriculum is offered in the classes I teach, the movements and the pace are modified to mirror the participant’s ability. Due to past injuries, I am familiar with the time and the discomfort that is common in the healing process, and it is with this experience that I offer compassion and sensitivity to my students and their health challenges.

What do you need?
I need opportunities to work with the community in a greater sense. I would like to find environments with in which I am able to offer public demonstrations for educational purposes, work with Senior groups throughout the Seattle area, and teach Kung fu to groups of young people so that they may develop a confident sense of self, and an understanding of how to act properly in society. If we want positive change, then we must all pitch in where we can!

Education
Over the years I have trained in variety of systems of Kung fu and Qigong, however, I have studied with my current teacher, Master Tse Wei Jing of the Tse Qigong Centre, for 9 years and I continue that study to this day. For almost a decade, I have trained in Seattle, throughout the United Kingdom, and also in China on numerous occasions. During this time, I have trained hard to honor my teacher and the lineage of which I am now a part. This training has enabled me to earn the priviledge to teach Wild Goose Qigong, Chun Yuen Quan; a Northern Shaolin skill, and Wing Chun Kung fu; a highly efficient and practical form of self defense which was popularized by the late Bruce Lee.

Greetings Derek and welcome to Biznik. It’s great work you do offering Qigong, and no shortage of the need for it.

There is a clip of my tai chi hand form on my Biznik profile if you are interested in seeing it, and I’m looking for push hands practice partners if you would be interested in that. Let me know.

    Take care,

    DD

    Dennis,

Thank you for the greetings and warm welcome to Biznik! I feel honored to teach Qigong and to have the opportunity to help people improve their quaity of life and movement. The classes have provided a positive environment to engage the community and to teach them how to heal themselves.

As for my Tai ji practice, I study Chen style, however, my study is young. With that in mind, perhaps we could push hands sometime in the future when I have had more time to stand in Zhan Zhuang. :)
Thanks for the mention of your clip, I had a look: Well Done!

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving

    Best regards
    Derek A. Fowler
