Lara and I will be attending the Seattle Wine Awards tasting on Sunday afternoon, and we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away valued at $170. The tickets include a sumptuous Rainier Club dinner buffet, a souvenir Riedel Magnum tasting glass, and a chance to sample the best wines produced in Washington. If you’re a wine lover like we are, this event will be a real treat. So how do you enter?

Here’s the deal: To decide the winner, we’re having a 24-hour contest to see who can invite the most new members to Biznik in 24 hours. The person who sends the most email invitations using Biznik’s invite tool will win a pair of tickets to the wine tasting, valued at $170. How’s that for a deal?

NOTE: Invitations sent to existing members will not be counted!

The contest will run from 4:30 pm today through 4:30 pm tomorrow (Friday). In addition to sending the invites, drop me a message on Biznik that you’ve entered, so I know to count you. We’ll be announcing the winner immediately after the contest ends tomorrow afternoon, so you’ll have time to plan your weekend wine consumption accordingly.

Here’s more info about the event:

I’ll be posting updates throughout the day tomorrow here on who is in the lead with the most invitations sent…so it’ll be a race to the finish.

  2. Dan McComb Says:

Here’s an update: as of 10:43 am, we have a tie for the lead:

Helen Martin - 4 invites sent
Falene Giaimo - 4 invites sent

Followed by Rebecca Little - 2 invites sent

23 other people have sent 1 invitation.

  3. Dan McComb Says:

With 4 hours to go in the contest, we have a new leader!

Kirsten Mohan - 6 invites sent
Helen Martin - 4 invites sent
Falene Giaimo - 4 invites sent

    4 hours left…

  4. Dan McComb Says:

With 2 hours to go, we’ve got a new challenger but Kirsten’s still in the lead:

Kirsten Mohan - 6 invites sent
    Margaret Friedman - 4 sent
Helen Martin - 4 invites sent
Falene Giaimo - 4 invites sent

  5. Dan McComb Says:

With about 40 minutes left in the contest, we’ve got a new runner up, but Kirsten is still holding onto her lead:

Kirsten Mohan - 7 invites sent
Brian Allen - 6 invites sent
Margaret Friedman - 5 invites sent
Helen Martin - 4 invites sent
Falene Giaimo - 4 invites sent

  6. Dan McComb Says:

With 10 minutes to go in the lead:

  7. Brizone Says:

    Copy/Paste, Copy/Paste, Copy/Paste. Good thing for Biznik that I’m such a lush… ;))

  8. Dan McComb Says:

We have a winner! Congratulations, Margaret Friedman. And we also discovered that I was counting wrong previously, oops. Here’s the final tally of the top 5:

    74 Margaret Friedman
    72 Brian Allen
    44 Kirsten Mohan
    6 Falene Giaimo
    2 Lindsay Berger

  9. Dan McComb Says:

Thanks for everyone who competed hard in this - Brian, I have a Biznik t-shirt for you - send me your snailmail address and t-size, and I’ll put it in the mail.

Kirsten, I’d send you one but I know you’ve already got one. I’ll buy you a drink next time I see you, how’s that?

  10. Brizone Says:

Oh Man, when it became clear that adding many names wasn’t incrementing my total, and that I was only getting credit for each time I filled out the form regardless of how many people were on it, I began doing them one-by-one.

Not crazy about having the counting method changed on me. My total would have been in the hundreds…

Here’s the snailmail: PO Box 16307, Seattle WA 98116 (Large)

  11. Dan McComb Says:

The counting method wasn’t changed - I just wasn’t counting correctly and I didn’t discover my error until Margaret pointed it out, allowing me to fix that before our final tally.

  12. Dan McComb Says:

I apologize for the error in my count throughout the day, but am glad we were able to correct it before the deadline so we had a valid winner. Thanks for participating everyone!

  13. Bean Fairbanks Says:

Congratulations! A great idea for the contest. Looking forward to seeing the winner at the Grand Tasting Event on Sunday

  14. The Biznik Blog - where collaboration beats competition » Blog Archive » Taste Washington’s best independently made wine today at Seattle Wine Awards Says:

[...] As an aside, the Seattle Wine Awards appear to be doing a heroic job of incorporating social media into the event, in a way that I haven’t seen many local organizations do effectively. For starters, they invited us! Biznik is a great fit because every winemaker is an independent business - Biznik’s core community. But they didn’t just invite us - The Wine Awards gave us 4 free tickets, so that not only could we attend, but we had a pair of tickets to give to a lucky Biznik community member (which we gave away last Friday to Margaret Friedman, the winner of our invite contest.)
